I'm REALLY not sure why anyone would want this, but for those that have asked for it, I've added both an RSS Feed and an mRSS Feed for the "Best of a Bad Lot" entries.

Eric Satie:
Gymnopédie #1

Promised a friend that I would make a recording of the Gymnopédie - so here it is - couple of buzzes and dinked harmonics - but it'll have to do. Been playing a LOT more tennis than guitar of late and haven't posted anything new here in a couple of years so I guess it's good to put up even simple little things like this.
From Wikipedia: "...The Gymnopédies, published in Paris starting in 1888, are three piano compositions written by French composer and pianist Erik Satie.

These short, atmospheric pieces are written in 3/4 time, with each sharing a common theme and structure. Collectively, the Gymnopédies are regarded as the precursors to modern ambient music - gentle yet somewhat eccentric pieces which, when composed, defied the classical tradition. ..."

Anyway - I've all but forgotten how to record well - and can't remember how I cleaned up the audio in the past - yes - still using the old webcam with all of its video and audio weaknesses - sorry. But I just replaced the older ones with a newly created vid which seems a little better in terms of less distortion.

Also, I made sort of a mashup (been watching too much Glee) of several transcriptions and tried to guess at Liona Boyd's repeat but I'll post a score by Thomas Königs which is a pretty simple transcription.

Just for fun... The first time I tried recording the Gymnopédie, the video was of such low resolution and quality that it was fit for only a dream sequence or something - well - maybe a nightmare - ya know - like where someone is having their flesh slowly peeled off - strip by strip - while some goofy old dude sits around in his office - in semi-darkness - playing his guitar ... BUT, the audio was fairly clean (even with a few dinked harmonics) and I decided that the video quality is sort of a neat companion to the ambient nature of this particular piece - so I kept it :-) Check it out below (or right) - the audio really is cleaner than the other one - something about the VEM sofware I use seems to inject a sort of rumble into the audio :-(
