House Of Blues Brunch
On Sunday morning, a small but intrepid band of reunion revelers met for a final event at the House of Blues in the French Quarter. As we indulged in unlimited quantities of food and champagne mimosas, we enjoyed more conversation and a great gospel performance. Those of us who had attended the Friday and/or Saturday reunion events were delighted to welcome Jackie Leonhard to the only event she was able to attend.
From the best table in the house, right at the base of the stage, we listened to The Zion Harmonizers, mainstays of the gospel tent at the Jazz and Heritage Festival. One of the performers, Sherman Washington, has been with the group since 1942. Near the end of the performance, the Zion Harmonizers were joined onstage by members of the Zulu Gospel Ensemble, and the results were highly uplifting -- a grand finale to a wonderful weekend!
