Bobbie Jean May Ball -Bill Ball's mother succumbed to cancer on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at her home in Mandeville. I'm sure many of us remember the pool parties and other visits to the Ball home as children and I expect, when we think about it, that we remember Bill's mom and dad as pretty good parent-hosts. I'm sure we all extend our thoughts and prayers to Bonnie, Bill, Brian and their families.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 28, 2005 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery). Mrs. Dorothy Dorsa Porter - I am saddened to tell you that Mrs. Porter passed away on the morning of Sept. 17, 2003. I wanted to share the funeral arrangements with you as soon as I had them.
The news of Mrs. Porter's rapid decline and passing came as quite a shock to those of us who were privileged to see and visit with Mrs. Porter at our 30th reunion this past July. She seemed to be doing so well. I'm so happy that she managed to join us at the Shrimp Boil and Dedication of the Graf Memorial Bench. Her loss would have been, somehow, more difficult had we not gotten to see her one last time.
Mrs. Porter's funeral was held on Monday, Sept. 22 at Lake Lawn Funeral Home with a memorial reception in the lobby of Saints Hall and Solomon Theater, located in the heart of the St. Martin's Episcopal School campus.
All students, colleagues or friends of Mrs. Porter that would like to share a memory of - or tribute to Mrs. Porter are encouraged send their contribution to Kicker
Mrs. Porter has established a fund at St. Martin's in her name (the Dorothy Porter Scholarship Fund) and requested that those who wish to make donations please send them to St. Martin's Episcopal School (address below). Please put the fund name in the memo of the check.
You can read more remembrance of Mrs. Porter on the Times-Picayune site. You can also leave Mrs. Porter's family a message in the guestbook on the Lake Lawn Registry page for Mrs. Porter.
Mrs. Theresa Frost - second grade teacher to many of us, passed away on July 27th, 2003. She had been battling cancer for a long time and was wonderfully graceful and optimistic in dealing with it. She lived at their home in Lafitte and had a good quality of life up to the end.
Mrs. Frost played an important part in giving many of us a head-start in life -- she helped us get our heads and feet pointed in the "right" direction from the beginning and remained an inspiration by her kind and gentle manner. As recipients of her life of service, we will remember her with great fondness and respect, always.
We grieve this loss with Mrs. Frost's family and friends and pray that today's second graders may be blessed with the same care, nurture and instruction that we were privileged to experience as youngsters. This is truly a loss in a world that could use such teachers today.
As a personal note, I would like to dedicate a little treatise (click HERE) to Mrs. Frost - in honor and thanks for her place in my and my classmates younger lives. It has been wanting dedication for several years and I can think of no one more deserving or appropriate than Mrs. Frost.
Mrs. Frost’s funeral was held at Grace Church in Hammond on Friday 8/1/03 -- In lieu of flowers, contributions to West Jefferson Home Health Hospice, 1743 Stumpf Blvd., Gretna, LA 70056 would be appreciated..
Condolences can be sent to...
