This is just a second practice pass at this lovely piece - it's not great and surely will be replaced by a new version in a couple of days - but pass 1 was just tooooo embarrassing to let stand any longer than absolutely necessary. In this one I surely make mistakes - but most are not as noticeable as in pass 1. Toward the end I DO make more mistakes - sort of seized up or something when I realized I probably had a vid that was more acceptable than the pass 1 vid ;-)
Anyway - as background for the piece - written, as I understand it, in December 1938 when he was Professor of Guitar at the National Conservatory in San Salvador. It's a barcarola dedicated to the niece of Francisco Salazar, one of Barrios' friends and admirers. Apparently he liked to do this... dedicate pieces to his friends and acquaintances.
"Julia Florida" means "Julia Blossoming" - which makes sense, I guess, if it was for a girl becoming a young lady.
p.s. I'm not sure why - but the video part of this recording stopped a couple of seconds before the actual end of the recording -- the audio continues but the last couple of video frames are blank?? Not missing much - and, at least you don't have to actually watch my final head-shake of irritation :-)
