I'm REALLY not sure why anyone would want this, but for those that have asked for it, I've added both an RSS Feed and an mRSS Feed for the "Best of a Bad Lot" entries.

Agustín Barrios Mangoré:
Una Limosna por el amor de Dios

Well - Ok - I broke down and kept two vids of practice passes at Limosna today. Sometimes I really wonder WHY I bother to keep plinking on this silly instrument - but - whachagonnado - I guess this can serve as the TERRIBLE early stage baseline for the piece, though, truth be known, I've been dinking around with the silly thing for a while now!!

The second pass from 02-25-06 is probably better than these...
but not by much

Anyway - it's a really nice piece (if you listen to almost ANYone else play it) and with an interesting background story -- according to the Mangore site...
The story goes like this: July 2nd 1944 -- Mangore was in San Salvador teaching a lesson when, suddenly, someone knocks at the door. Barrios opens the door and an old lady with her arm stretching forwards tells him "Una Limosna por el amor de Dios" - "An alm for the love of God" - Mangore gave the lady a few coins and then went back to his student with a smile on his face. Looked at him and told him: "I am working on a new piece and I know what I will do with it...I will incorporate the knocking at the door in the piece"... Barrios died on August 7th 1944 and left the piece finished but without a title. When the student that was with him told this story, the piece was called "Una limosna por el amor de Dios"...for being Mangore's last composition it is often called "El Ultimo Canto" - The last song.

I try to keep the "knocking" effect but don't do a very good job of either that or the tremolo - sheeeeeesh! I'm just so freaked out at how badly my RH thumb is acting that I blow everything else as well --- I should probably cut off my RH thumb in hopes that a new - better behaved - one would grow back in its place!!

If you play - and espECIally if you play Limosna - please don't watch or listen to these unless you're in specifically to criticize and offer me some suggestions for some specific steps I can take to improve my freakin' RH!!!!

There are two passes below - pass 1 is slower (about half tempo, actually) - pass 2 is a bit faster but highlights how poor my tremolo is and becomes in the piece - I developed a gallop a week or so ago and have been working to get rid of it - now it seems at times like I am totally missing m-strokes in the tremolo GRRRRRRRRrrrrrr.

Anyway - quite terrible - OH! and the sun comes in and out on vid 1 - but I needed something for friends to critique - and I was tired of football on TV - so here they are. (I really DO know how bad this is and you REALLY don't want to watch if you play). Oh - on pass 2 - once I begin to fail I REALLY do it up big - sorry!!
